I obtained a degree in Biology in July 2004 from University of Santiago de Compostela. In 2012 I received my PhD degree in Microbiology with a FPI fellowship in the department of Microbiology at University of Santiago de Compostela. In 2013 I was awarded with a Postdoctoral grant from Xunta de Galicia and joined the Infection and Immunity department at Sheffield University (UK) for two years. In 2015, I re-joined the GIPA group and was awarded with a second Postdoctoral fellowship from Xunta de Galicia as PI of a small project. In 2019 I joined the CRETUS institute as a postdoctoral researcher and in 2020 I was awarded as principal investigator of a project in the “Proyectos I+D+i jóvenes investigadores” program (Mineco). Recently I have been awarded with the fellowship grant Distinguished researcher for talent retention postdoctoral fellowship, funded by Xunta de Galicia. My research career started with the study of the taxonomy and diversity of marine bacteria and the regulatory mechanisms of survival of bacteria associated to aquatic media. Nowadays, I study the bacterial diversity associated to the wastewater treatments with my main research line focused on the study of the bacteria degrading microplastics in the wastewater treatment plants.
