Lucas Van der Hauwaert
PhD Candidate
I hold a master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Gent and am currently pursuing a PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at USC. My research focuses on the computer-aided design of biorefineries, where I develop and apply mathematical models to key processing units and optimize processing routes using superstructure optimization techniques. By leveraging these models and techniques, my work aims to unlock the potential of biorefineries and enhance the efficiency and environmental sustainability of biomass conversion, such as from agricultural waste
