Juan M. Lema Rodicio, Professor Emeritus of the University of Santiago de Compostela, has been awarded with the highest academic distinction granted by the Chinese Universities: "Honorary Professor" equivalent to the "Honoris Causa" designation. Until now, less than 25 international professors have received this distinction.

The title was awarded in a solemn ceremony presided over by the President (Rector) of the Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) on October 25 in recognition of the exceptional contributions of Prof. Lema in the field of environmental biotechnology in the last 30 years.

This recognition adds to the four he has already received: Doctor Honoris Causa by the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile (2015), ‘Laurea ad Honorem’ by the Politecnico di Milano (2021), Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Valladolid (2021) and Honorary Doctorate by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2023).
