Biogroup collaborates with the Galician Association of Agrifood Cooperatives (Agaca) to study the carbon footprint of milk production on Galician farms.

23 Feb 2023

Researchers from Biogroup measured the carbon footprint of a hundred Galician milk-producing farms with an average of 88 cows in the productive phase within a project led by the Galician Association of Agrifood Cooperatives (Agaca). The purpose of this initiative was not so much to find the farm with the lowest carbon footprint, but rather to identify the parameters that contribute the most to the emissions of polluting gases.

The study concludes that to produce one litre of milk, these farms emit an average of 1.15 kilos of carbon equivalent. This is less than the European average of 1.3 to 1.4 kilos.
