On Saturday 8th July we celebrated the 35th anniversary of the BioGroup in an emotional and entertaining event, full of anecdotes, stories and fantastic memories. The ceremony, took place at ETSE and was attended by 80 members, former members and friends of BioGroup.
The event started with a presesntation by the hand of Juan M. Lema, reviewing from its beginnings, the history of the group, how it was formed, the first research lines, the first Doctoral Theses and technicians, anecdotes, the transition to IIT, the transition to ETSE, the last achievements, etc.
Then, Rolando Chamy, Lorna Guerrero and Mari Carmen Vega, were the representatives of their period, and share with the audience some curiosities and funny anecdotes. José Manuel Fernández and Benigno Ramos were in charge of remembering the years 93-97 at Biogroup. Iñaki Mielgo and Manena Zúñiga represented the years 98-2022 where the group moved to the IIT. Carmen López and Belén Arrojo, represented the "Beautiful glories" of the period 2003-2007, with funny anecdotes and many photos! The fun (and expected) tandem Rubén Reif and Rober Taboada made us laugh with anecdotes from their 2008-2012 period. Leticia Regueiro and Paula Pérez, gave voice to the 2013-2018 period full of thesis defenses, congresses, parties, dinners, sports and many Biopaellas! Lorena González e Antón Taboada were the representatives of the 2018 + - 5 years, explained us how were the BioDays and BioNights in those years. Finally, on behalf of the current doctoral students, Ana Arias and Jorge González, made an excellent presentation of what BioGroup is today.
There were also 3 recognitions to 3 BIG and great companies that have accompanied us over the years and have always provided us with support, collaboration and a very good relationship. We made BioGroup Honorary members to Espina y Delfin, Aqualia and Viaqua-Cetaqua.
Also, there were 3 recognitions to 3 GREAT researchers and friends who were decisive and fundamental in the history of BioGroup. We talk about: Luis Melo, Fernando Fdz-Polanco and Carles Solà.
The last recognition of the day was a surprise to Juan M. Lema, that was awarded for his dedication, work and commitment to BioGroup over the years.
