On February, the PhD Candidate Brais Vázquez gave a seminar addressing the end-of-life assessment of bioplastics and its role in the overall environmental performance of these materials. Bio-based plastics are often presented as a promising alternative due to their renewable origin and, in some cases, because their biodegradability. However, for them to be considered a truly sustainable option, it is essential to rigorously evaluate their real environmental impact. The researcher highlighted the importance of considering all stages of the life cycle, with particular attention to end-of-life management, which can sometimes be just as decisive as the production phase in determining the total environmental impact.
